We opened The Goat Loft with Airbnb in July. It’s been quite a busy place and so far we have really enjoyed the hosting experience. I tend to overthink things while still missing others, so it probably took longer than it should have to get it up and running. One of the places I think I missed a few opportunities initially was the bedroom.

When we first opened, I was all about the aesthetics. The bedroom was pretty and I thought the mattress was comfortable enough. It had a magnetic memory foam topper on it that friends had told us several times was very comfortable…then we received this as part of a review. “The only issue we had was the bed. It’s a hard bed and we are apparently wimps who need a cloud to sleep on. Needless to say, we didn’t get much sleep while there but again, wimps who need to sleep on marshmallows or an equivalent substance.” The rest of the review was incredibly positive, but this part bothered me. I knew I had to do something.
Fate intervened because literally the next week Therapedic reached out to me and asked if I would like to try their sheets and mattress topper for my holiday guests. Yes, please!
Set up
When the items arrived, I unrolled the mattress topper on the bed.
Then I noticed it needed to lay open for at least 48 hours… DOH! We had guests coming… so I drug it back to the house (A bit tricker when unrolled) When the guests left, I brought it back over and added it under the dust mite cover.
The 3 inches of foam already looked more luxurious and really filled out the mattress cover.
Pulling the sheets out of the dryer, they were pretty wrinkled. (Full disclosure: I did feel the need to iron them before taking these pictures.) At 450 thread count, they were very soft, but felt pretty durable too.
I also noticed some really unique and useful differences. The elastic around the bottom is much thicker looks as though it would hold around a mattress very well. There are also tags on each side that tell you which part of the bed to place them on. Ever flipped a fitted sheet three or four times to make it fit? …a thing of the past with these babies!
Flipping the elastic over, I found buttons. Buttons?
On the flat sheet bottom there is a buttonhole… Say goodbye to the annoying problem of your flat sheet bunching up in the middle of the night.
I personally find my pillow case slides off my pillow in the middle of the night as I flip and flop, these Therapedic pillow cases solve that problem with an envelope-flap closure.
The end folds over your pillow, keeping it inside the case with a more polished look.
Putting it all together I felt like with these two little additions we had really made a noticeable change to the sleeping space.
I was right! The very next review we received stated “The bed and sofa bed were comfy…”. SUCCESS! Though of course I began to wonder if Thereapedic has a topper for sofa beds….

In short, the mattress topper is a fantastic and very “needed” addition. I have had several guests comment on how much they have truly enjoyed the comfort of the bed since I put it on. I wish I had one for myself.

Pros

- Cotton Sateen Softness means no pilling later on
- “Therafit technology” (that wide elastic) that hugs the mattress for a perfect fit for any mattress depth
- Deep corner pockets to fit mattresses up to 18 inches thick.
- side labels on fitted sheet for easy and quick bed making
- envelope closure on pillow cases
- Oversized stay-tucked flat sheets can be buttoned to the fitted sheet to really keep them in place.
Cons
- wrinkle more than I would prefer
- buttoning them in place can be tricky on a bed with a footboard
I absolutely consider the sheets a hands-down win for the longer stay Airbnb guest, guest in my home, or me.
Due to the wrinkling out of the dryer and difficulty in use with a tight footboard, I am not sure they are a great fit for a “short-stay” guest in an Airbnb or short-term-rental environment.

When you receive a new memory foam mattress topper it is going to be boxed up and tightly packed. Most mattress topper just have to be placed on top of your mattress which might seem simple enough. But we created this guide to give you some helpful tips to make life even easier.
Step 1: Place the box with the mattress topper in the desired room. Since the memory foam is tightly packed it will expand making it much hard for it to be able to move around. If you don’t have enough space in your desired location then you can let it expand somewhere else just keep in mind it is going to be a lot hard to move once it is opened.
Step 2: Remove the mattress topper from the box, if it is wrapped or air sealed in packing use scissors and not a knife, a knife will cut to deep and damage the memory foam underneath. When using the scissor make sure not to cut deep and only cut the packaging. Be careful while doing this.

Step 3: Once the mattress topper is removed from all packaging it will start to expand and off gas. Place the memory foam mattress topper on a flat and even surface, making sure it is not exposed to high heat or direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can damage the memory foam and make it less responsive. Let the memory foam air out for 12 to 48 hours or until it reaches its intended width/ height and doesn’t have an intense smell from being wrapped up in the packaging.
Step 4: Once the mattress topper has been fully air out it is time to place it on top of your mattress. Remove all items on your bed sheets, pillows and protector. Mattress protectors can be placed over or underneath a mattress topper but you might as well protect both the mattress topper and mattress.
Step 5: Place the memory foam mattress topper on top of the mattress making sure that is lays evenly across the mattress. Remove any bulges or folds.
Step 6: Once the mattress topper is laying perfectly flat on your mattress place the rest of your bedding onto, making the bed how you normally would.

As you can see it is easy to set up and place a memory foam mattress topper on your bed. Just remember the main tips in this article is to not use a knife when removing the mattress topper from the packaging and to make sure the let it expand in the room that you are using it in to help save time and frustration.
