WHAT IS ENGINEERED CEMENTITIOUS COMPOSITE (ECC)?
Nx Cast
Also called bendable concrete, ECC is an exclusive mixture of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) made with different composites and low volume fibers that produce high ductility and high tensile strength material. Conventional concrete and typical fiber-reinforced concrete are brittle in nature and hence crack easily under environmental and mechanical loads, affecting the durability of structures. ECC acts more like a ductile metal than a brittle glass (as does OPC concrete), leading to a wide variety of applications.
Engineered to meet the extreme demands of a roof application and weighing half of conventional concrete, ELCEMITE™incorporates many of the performance attributes and superior characteristics of Ultra High-Performance Concrete (UHPC). UHPC was developed in the 1990s and has become one of the few major breakthroughs in concrete technology in the last two centuries.
ELCEMITE™is our proprietary lightweight ECC and is made using Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), a combination of specific fine powders selected for grain size, particle weight and chemical reactivity, and reinforced with fibers. This formulation creates a light-weight ductile cementitious material with performance characteristics not generally associated with conventional concrete.
This ECCis a flowable, fast setting, fiber-reinforced and self-curing mixture that includes all dry ingredients pre-blended and all liquid ingredients pre-proportioned for easy blending. Curing of the product under ambient temperatures (min 62°F/17°C) for a minimum of three days is required.
ELCEMITE™ uses lightweight ingredients, rather than any foaming ingredients or Styrofoam to reduce mixture weight. This leads to a more dense, low porosity composite material.
In addition to the many performance and aesthetics attributes, the unique formulation of ELCEMITE™ utilizes several “post-consumer” ingredients, for a positive environmental choice and a building material that can earn its value by obtaining LEEDS credits.
Currently, our mixis available in four (4) flowable casting pre-mix designs: ELCEMITE™ R60, ELCEMITE™ R70, ELCEMITE™ R80, and un-reinforced ELCEMITE™ U80.
While “R”formulations are fiber-reinforced, the “U” formulations are un-reinforced and are designed for applications where extra lightweight, high strength, low porosity and self-consolidating mix characteristics are desired, such as in floor topping.

Weighing half the weight of conventional concrete, ELCEMITE™ can be used to cast in fine detail almost anything imaginable, such as lightweight wall panels, planter boxes, balustrades in addition to our proprietary NX-Brand products in roofing, decking and fencing.
With low porosity and a specific weight similar to water, ELCEMITE™ R60 is our lightest mix and is used to cast our proprietary NX-Dock Planks™ for dock surface applications where aesthetics and “concrete-like” durability is important.
